What exactly is Hi-Definition Television & Photography? Why has it changed the way we do makeup?

Hi-Definition Televisions & Photography simply provides more visual information than Standard Resolution Film. While standard televisions/cameras display 330 lines of resolution, HDTVs display either 720 or 1080 lines, each broken up into hundreds of tiny pixels. This illustration, courtesy of Wikipedia, explains this phenomenon simply:

As a result of this increased definition, our work is subject to more scrutiny than ever before. Because an airbrush lays down the makeup in a dot pattern that's so similar to the way the camera reads the face, it gives artists working in this field an unparalleled advantage.

What are the advantages of airbrush makeup?

Though not a new technology, airbrush makeup is once again in the limelight due to the advanced of evolving digital camera technology.

1.) Refined Pattern: The spray dot-pattern the airbrush puts down on the skin looks the most flawless on camera than the patterns and trace lines that brushes, fingers and sponges leave behind. However these marks may appear invisible to the naked eye, they can be quite noticeable when your client's face is shown in Hi-Definition, close-up or in a High Resolution Digital Photo with traditional makeup application. Many liquid foundations and powders can make the skin look pale or shiny in a photograph. Ingredients such as Mica found in mineral makeup will send a reflection to a camera lens which makes your skin look iridescent. Most powders contain Talc which will make your face look pale in professional photos. Sunscreens are also not recommended as will show up white in photography.
